Pokemon GO – Kanto Dex Complete

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Gaming, News

After just over two years, yesterday I was finally able to complete the original Kanto pokedex in Pokemon GO. It took me a lot longer than some but I do like to think I am quite casual when it comes to Pokemon games in general. I completed 150/151 and received the certificate when I was in the 5th and 6th grade on my blue and yellow versions, and also completed 721/721 several years later in pokemon Y. I haven’t got huge into Gen 7 yet. I played through moon and currently playing through UltraSun but haven’t begun migrating my Gen 6 guys over due to the lack of a national pokedex.

Anyways, back to Pokemon GO. I had been sitting on 148/151 for a while. Only needing #115 Kangaskhan, #122 Mr. Mime, and #150 Mewtwo. If you are familiar with Pokemon GO you may already know that Kangaskhan is regional to Australia and Mr. Mime to Europe, and up until recently Mewtwo was only available through EX Raids which required an invite to. Well thanks to the Professor Willow’s Global Research Challenge Ultra Bonus Event, for a limited time regional pokemon are able to be hatched in 7km eggs and Mewtwo is a standard Raid boss.

As soon as Mewtwo went live on September 20th my local raid group chat had people to group with and since Thursday, Ashley and I have caught 4 out of 5 Mewtwos each.

It took roughly 15 super incubators (which hatch 3 eggs each, so 45 or so hatches) but I was able to get 4 Mr. Mimes and a Kangaskhan that finally hatched yesterday which completed the Kanto pokedex.

Hopefully we will see the addition of Generation 4 soon, as well as future events which will allow us to get regional pokemon without actually travelling the globe.

Before the World of Warcraft

When you mention Warcraft these days, most people just assume we’re talking about the MMORPG World of Warcraft, but for a lot of us Warcraft began long before the World came to light.

My personal earliest memories of the Warcraft franchise are of my Grandfather playing Warcraft 1 on the PC my dad had built for him. I was only 6 or 7 at the time but the idea of a game where you built up an army and conquered your foes was incredibly intriguing at the time. A few years later my dad got Warcraft 2 and I was able to watch him play 1v1 matches with a friend over a direct TCP/IP connection. This soon translated into me making 8 player 1v1 free for all custom games and cheating my way to victory over the orc and human scum which stood in my way, combined with my adolescent imagination the possibilities of these custom games seemed endless.

Eventually Starcraft was released and had free play on battle.net so you could test your skills online, against anybody in the world. We finally had cable internet at this time so I spent the summer between fourth and fifth grade playing Starcraft online. I don’t remember much of it other than I tried to rush to carriers every game because of how strong they are. Knowing what I know now due to many hours of playing Starcraft 2, I can’t imagine 11 year old me ever winning a game of Starcraft on battle.net.

A year or so later I happened to be in Radio shack and saw a copy of Warcraft 2 battle.net edition so you could also play online now, without directly connecting to your opponent. A couple friends and I picked this up and played some matches online. There was no doubt it was the same Warcraft game, but finally playing against other real online players exposed me to realize how bad I was at the RTS genre, and getting crushed into oblivion game after game just didn’t have the same magic feeling that 2 day long custom games of clearing out 7 easy AI did.

Skip ahead a few more years and we have the release of Warcraft 3. Within a few days of launch my dad had picked up a copy and I started the campaign right away. I was so drawn to the story and the characters. Specifically Arthas and his quest to save his people. I finished the Human Campaign and was shocked to see Arthas kill his father to take the throne of Lordaeron. I wanted more, I wanted to see what happened next. I struggled in the undead campaign and eventually gave up, resorting to battle.net games like tower defenses and helms deep before ultimately putting the game down for a few years.

Summer of 2004 I finally sat down and played through Warcraft 3 and the Frozen Throne and started looking into World of Warcraft. I recall late nights on the computer with my step brother looking into classes, races, professions, you name it. We had it all planned out that I was going to be a Paladin and him a Warrior, and one of us would mine and the other would blacksmith. That year I started grade 11 and some other guys in my social studies class were also interested in picking up World of Warcraft when it dropped. One of them told me that you could fish in WoW and if thats all you wanted to do, then you could just be a fisherman. For some reason that was amazing to me and I wanted to step foot into an MMORPG to see what it was all about.

In this section I plan to recall some of my memories in World of Warcraft. I got the game back in February of 2005 when it was still limited sale and have pretty much played it ever since. I haven’t decided an exact format yet but we’ll start back with the vanilla leveling experience and eventually catch right up to battle for azeroth and beyond.

Thanks for tuning in 🙂

Omnibus Reviews

Earlier this year I got into collecting comics. Well, not exactly comics but hardcover books more commonly referred to as an omnibus. These are collected editions of comics which span anywhere from 20-50 issues of a comic series, some probably even larger. The plan here is to keep tabs on the books I read and I’ll give my own personal reviews and synopsis on them. You have to keep in mind when I started doing this I was what you could call a comic virgin. I started with the marvel unlimited app and read the Infinity Gauntlet, War and Crusade story lines. I know probably a bit cliche with all the hype around the recent Infinity War movie (which by the way was amazing). This lead me to check out my local comic shops and I ended up picking up the Uncanny X-Men Volume 1 omnibus. To date I’ve read the following:

  • Uncanny X-Men Volume 1
  • Uncanny X-Men Volume 2
  • Uncanny X-Men Volume 3
  • Amazing Spider-Man Volume 1
  • Daredevil Volume 1
  • Avengers Volume 1

I plan to write individual reviews for all of these at some point hopefully sooner rather than later while they are still in recent memory, this is really to help my own memory of what I thought of different books etc. but if somebody else enjoys reading it then what the heck! Why not share.

Ok, so I’ve installed word press and we’ll see if I can actually manage to keep a front page for my webspace. I’ll admit though its ridiculously user friendly so it just depends if I want to actually update it or not. I don’t know I have much need for a blog but this kind of serves as one I guess. I realize things are very plain looking right now and I’ll change that too over the next couple days/weeks/months. It might not even happen. Consider this more of a landing page so people can’t freely browse through all the files I have uploaded anymore. Privacy is a good thing 😛

We’ll see though, this could be an ongoing project or something I do on the side for now. Does that make me a blogger?!
